Indian Virtual Worlds and MMORPGs – GoJiyo, Chimpoo, Online Tales…
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010The Indian virtual worlds and MMOGs ( Massively Multiplayer Online Games) market is starting to look up. VWs and MMOGs have been launched in the recent months to address all ends of the market. From Chimpoo a flash based kids world to the recent announcement of Online Tales an Indian MMOG by Swadesh Animation and RZ2 games. Godrej launched GoJiyo during the IPL Season and has been consistently promoting the Online Social Virtual World across media platforms.
We believe, these are very interesting times for the industry as the gaming and interactive content business is about to explode in India. A couple of interesting trends are accelerating the demand for online multi-user environments in India ( besides the over-arching reason that the recession is receding and more money is available for such investments) :
- The projected growth of PCs, Netbooks and other Internet Enabled Devices in India in the next 2-3 years.
- The push by telcos to spread Broadband to Tier 1 and 2 cities in India. As also, the improving speeds and reliability of the networks.
Some general global trends like better standard graphics hardware, proliferation of social networks and casual games and general awareness about interactive content on the Internet are contributing factors.
Globally we feel handheld ( mobile, internet enabled) devices like the iPad will revolutionize the interactive media industry in the next few years.

On November 6, 2009, the ThinkBalm Innovation Community will be holding an event called “Un-lecture no. 5: ‘Global’.” Three presenters will talk about Immersive Internet adoption trends and use cases in their region of the world: Yesha Sivan on Israel and the Middle East, Siddharth Banerjee on India and surrounds, and Claus Nehmzow on Hong Kong and region. Barbara Westmoreland will wrap things up by demo’ing part of nTeams island, which her company uses for global team-building activities.

The ThinkBalm Innovation Community is a professional community with a mission of advancing adoption of work-related use of the Immersive Internet (e.g., virtual worlds and campuses, virtual event platforms, immersive learning environments, and 3D collaboration tools). Indusgeeks has been chosen as a Gold Service Provider by Linden Lab for the Second Life Grid. This makes Indusgeeks only one of two companies in the entire Asia Pacific Region ( the other one being a Japanese firm) to be represented in this accredited category.
This is an extract from the Linden Blog : ” The Gold Solution Provider Program is the first of its kind in the virtual worlds industry, reflecting the strength, longevity, and unique ability for users to create and own their content on the Second Life platform. The new Gold Program identifies exceptionally qualified Solution Providers with a high level of client satisfaction, a track record of developing successful Second Life projects, and demonstrated expertise working with real world organizations. Today, we are inducting 31 Gold Solution Providers into the program who comes from the United States, Europe and Asia (full list of members below). They have business backgrounds in areas ranging from design and web development to marketing agencies and training, and have developed projects for multinational corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, and non-profits”.
