Genre: Point and Click Puzzle Adventure
Follow the adventures of five little tree dwelling creatures on their perilous journey to save their home tree from invading parasitic spiders.
Play as 5 different characters, all with their own unique abilities and navigate your way through seemingly bizarre and often surreal landscapes in a micro-world.
Even though the basic gameplay comes down to pointing and clicking on any area in the game world to find objects to interact with, the cleverly designed puzzles and levels will take more than just a guess to find the right objects. Certain areas of the game require a more creative approach than just a point and click, as you will have to push and pull objects around the game world. Sometimes, interacting with an object will affect other objects in the game, which makes it challenging to discover the right order in which the objects must be interacted with. The game has no tutorial of any sort, so it is up to you to figure out what the right course of action should be.
Visually and aurally, Botanicula is a treat for the senses. The micro-world that our characters inhabit feels alive. The background score is absolutely astonishing and mesmerizing. Each character, every landscape has a distinct audio quality. The landscapes often take bizarre forms, as do the numerous other characters in the game. Often, interacting with these characters lead to some pretty humourous and absurd conversations, making the experience a lot more delightful and entertaining.
Underneath the simple gameplay mechanics, the pretty visuals and the absolutely delightful audio, Botanicula is a game of exploration, of friendship and team work as you will have to keep switching between the 5 different characters and use their abilities to progress through the game. It will linger in your mind long after you have finished playing it, like a distant memory that you keep longing to go back to. It is one of those rare experiences that will delight you, fill you with a sense of joy and surprise you at every turn. All of these make Botanicula a game not to be missed.
